San Francisco De-criminalizes Psychedelics

At its Tuesday meeting (6 September 2022), the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution that initiates the decriminalization of psychedelics like psilocybin, the active component of magic mushrooms. The resolution passed unanimously, and also applies to several other psychedelic compounds.

The Board of Supervisors calls for the regulation of certain psychedelic compounds to be made the lowest of enforcement priorities for the city’s police department. It asks that city resources not be expended on enforcing laws regarding psychedelic possession, cultivation, and use. This new directive is in line with several other major cities, including Denver, Seattle, and Washington D.C. While the city may be softening its stance, the substances remain controlled at the state and federal levels and individuals still can be charged with crimes.

Additionally, the Board advocates for decriminalization on a state and federal level, citing studies that show how psychedelic compounds can be useful in treating mental illness and opioid addiction.

At Skylight Psychedelics, we believe that advances in the study and use of psychedelic medications like ketamine (and when legalized, the use of MDMA, Psilocybin and DMT), represent the forefront of mental health treatment.  We put theory into practice by training and certifying licensed providers to safely practice ketamine-assisted therapy in their offices. We also prescribe ketamine to patients who are medically eligible for this treatment.

At Skylight, we see you…
